Review: A Little Bit Country by S.J Frost

Genre- M/M Erotic Romance
Publisher- MLR Press
Cover Artist- Jared Rackler

Blurb:

Rock singer, Ash Ivers, and country music star, Jackson Abrams, have intense passion that brings them together, but will they be able to overcome all their differences when Jackson's career is threatened?

Ash Ivers says and does what he wants, and with being the lead singer of the world famous rock band, From Ashes, he gets away with both. Three years ago, his mouth got the better of him, and he started a media feud with county music star, Jackson Abrams. When they’re both booked to play a charity concert, he sees his chance to finally confront Jackson in person. Though, he’s uncertain if his anger will hold against his attraction to the singing cowboy.

Jackson Abrams is the darling of country music. He’s polite, charming, handsome… and he has a secret that he fears could jeopardize his career. When it comes to the cocky rock star, Ash Ivers, he’s infuriated and intrigued by him. He wants their feuding to stop, but he also doesn't want to lose the attention it gives him from Ash.

As Ash and Jackson meet, the heat of anger turns to passion. But when Jackson’s world starts crumbling around him, will their differences make them stronger, or drive them apart?

***Author's Note*** This is the expanded, full-length novel. The original novella, "A Little Bit Country", was approximately 28k. This book is approximately 60k. It takes the original novella, and where it ended, this one continues on to complete the story.

My Thoughts:

I expected this book to be excellent and I was not disappointed. S.J Frost is one of my favorite authors and she never ceases to amaze me. Everyone who knows me knows that I rant and rave over S.J's Conquest series. This book was just as good, the characters just as loveable and the storyline just as captivating.

Ash is a headstrong, outspoken rock God. He doesn't pull any punches; always tells it like it is. His hair is wild and he has a body (including pierced nipples) that just won't quit. ~See where I am going here...~ Basically Ash is a bad boy that oozes sex appeal. Oh and he is openly gay.

Jackson is more like the boy next door. He is calm, cool and collected. Always seems to think before he opens his mouth. At the same time he rocks a white Stetson and cowboy boots! That's right, he is a good ole boy through and through. Unlike Ash, Jackson is still in the closet about his sexual preference.

You know that saying "opposites attract"? Well that certainly proves true in this case. Bad Boy rocker meets Down Home country boy rancher and the passion ignites.

One of my favorite things about this couple is that once they get together, they stay together. They have enough drama hitting them from the outside they don't need anymore.

The Other Characters...

Chad, Jeremy and Devin are the other members of From Ashes. By the end of this book we can see who Devin may end up with. What about Chad and Jeremy? Could we maybe get a story or stories for them at some point? Then there is Charles Benson he needs a book too! Hopefully S.J Frost will return to these guys at somepoint in the future, but according to her website as of now it is a stand alone title.

Review: Feeling the Rhythm (Conquest #7) by S.J Frost

Goodreads Summary:

Brad Delfini once had the world in his hands, but misfortune and bad decisions showed him just how quickly the spotlight can go dark. For years, he was struggling to get by, when a fateful phone call brought him to famed rock band, Conquest. Since becoming their drummer, he’s hit the top of fame again and he has all he could ever want. Except for one thing. As Conquest’s world tour draws to the close, that missed chance leaves him filled with regrets.

Remmy Laurent has been a roadie since he graduated high school, but years of being on the move have worn him down. He decides it’s time to quit and bring some stability into his life. He just wanted to finish out this one last tour with his favorite band; Conquest. It hasn’t been an easy tour, for many reasons, but most of all because no matter how hard he tried to deny it, he lost his heart to a man who he thinks barely knows he exists.

When the last concert is played, Brad and Remmy both believe they’ll never see each other again, but a little friendly intervention brings them together once more. As they begin to know each other in a whole new way, Brad must somehow make peace with his past if he and Remmy are going to have a future.

My Thoughts:

Finally we get to Brad's book! I have been waiting to read this book since Brad joined Conquest. I was so happy that he ended up with Remmy because Remmy was a fantastic character who deserved to be happy too. Brad was an ass until he figured out a few things, mainly where his life was headed. It all worked out in the end though. Brad and Remmy certainly know how to light the pages on fire!

This entire series was fantastic and I can only hope to see these characters again sometime in the future. I will definitely reread all of the books over and over. It will be one of my go to series. One that I go to whenever I am in a book funk or just need a pick me up.

Review: Heartstrings (Conquest #6) by S.J Frost

Goodreads Summary:

When violinist, Nicholas “Las” Lamont would make his treasured violin sing, he could transfer the emotion of every piece to his listeners. That was before his passion faded. As Las performs the last concert on his tour, he realizes his lackluster playing goes against everything he used to love about music and he has two choices; rediscover his love for music, or stop playing.

Quinn Patrick, the leader and drummer of the Scottish rock band, Lions Rampant, lives for music. The instant he and Las meet, Quinn sees in him a man with a beautiful gift, but who’s lost his way. He wants nothing more than to bring back the sensitivity and passion that made Las the virtuoso he is.

The more time Las spends with Quinn, the more he learns about what it is to love music. But if he’s to truly find happiness, he must open his heart not only to music again, but to Quinn as well.

My Thoughts:

I didn't think S.J Frost would ever be able to write another couple to rival the affection I have for Jesse and Evan...but oh my she has done that here! I fell hard for Las and Quinn! A violinist and a rockstar in a kilt, does it get any better than that?!

I still love Jesse and Evan (Conquest #1), but Las and Quinn are a very close second. They share an instant connection and don't bother fighting it. This book is yet another that I will read over and over again. I very highly revommend this entire series. These guys will cause laughter and tears, leave you breathless, yet at the same time make you ache for more.

Review: Beautiful Harmony (Conquest #5.5) by S.J Frost

Goodreads Summary:

Featuring Kyler Christenson and Robbie Russo from the novel, Black Heart Down.

Ever since rock stars, Kyler Christenson and Robbie Russo, pledged their commitment, they've lived only for each other, and it's been a life of happiness every day. When Robbie wakes on Christmas morning to a special message in the snow and Kyler standing in the early sunlight, he races outside to be with him.

Though he and Robbie have faced challenges in their past, Kyler knows what he wants for their future. As Robbie stands before him, Kyler presents him with a gift that will change both their lives to one of beautiful harmony.

My Thoughts:

This is book 5.5 in the Conquest series by S.J Frost.
I was so happy to be able to see Another glimpse into Robbie and Kylers life. This novella was perfectly titled. Robbie and Kylers life together is now a Beautiful Harmony.

In this story Kyler gives Robbie the perfect Christmas morning. He puts a lot of thought into his gifts and the snow scene proposal was to die for! I can't stress enough how enthralling this series is. I will read it over and over again!

Review: Black Heart Down (Conquest #5) by S.J Frost

Goodreads Summary:

For Robbie Russo, only one man has ever owned his heart, Kyler Christenson. The years at each other’s sides never diminished his love for him, but with the rise to fame in their rock band, Black Heart Down, more than a few challenges hindered their relationship. Now, he’s reached a crossroads, either he’ll have all of Kyler, or he’ll walk away from everything they’ve built together.

Kyler may be fearless on stage, but if there’s one thing to send his heart crashing down, it’s losing Robbie. When Robbie delivers his ultimatum, Kyler’s willing to do what it takes for things to work. But change doesn’t happen quickly, and when he makes a terrible mistake, all their history together might not be enough to save their future.

My Thoughts:

This is the fifth book in the Conquest series by S.J Frost and I loved it!  No surprise there. I have loved each and every one of the books in this series. I wasn't a big fan of Kyler in the previous books, but that was because we readers had only been given a small glimpse into the complex man Ky really is. There are so many reasons why Kyler is the way that he is and hearing his story made my heart hurt.

Robbie is an amazing man that made a really bad decision. Together Robbie and Kyler make a magical pair and I am so glad that I finally got to their story.

Also, it was awesome to see Jesse and Evan again, as well as the other members of Conquest. While they made an appearance they didn't overshadow the main characters and their story.

S.J Frost has become one of my favorite authors. She is a phenominal story teller that writes with so much emotion, that you can't help but feel apart of the story. I can not recommend her work enough.
If you read nothing else this year you absolutely must try the Conquest series!

Review Rewind (#4): Finding a Dream (Conquest #4) by S.J Frost

Review Rewind (#4):
This is my last Review Rewind for S.J Frost. I have read the next two stories in the series and those review posts will be coming next week. I can't stress enough how amazing this entire series has been you simply must give it a try. I am sure you will love it, as I do.

Goodreads Summary:
Bullied and harassed at school for his sexuality, Dillon Davis can’t see his life getting any better, but he can see it getting worse. Depressed, wounded in spirit and body, he’s nearing a point of hopelessness, until he sees a picture of his favorite stage actor, Brandon Alexander, with his partner, Shunichi Miyamoto. At learning Shunichi runs a karate dojo, a spark of hope comes to Dillon of learning to defend himself, and most of all, meeting Brandon.

Brandon Alexander is filled with compassion for Dillon the moment he meets him. He knows all too well what it’s like to be scorned for being gay. He and Shunichi want nothing more than to help him, but when Dillon never returns to the dojo, they fear what’s happened to him.

My Thoughts:
This is book 4 in the Conquest series. I loved that Jesse and Evan had a cameo in this book, but didn't take away from the focus of the story. Brandon & Shun played a much bigger roll in helping out Dillon. The fact that they didn't even hesitate to do so made me love them that much more. I hope we get to see Dillon again at some point in the future. This series is so amazing, I think everyone needs to read it.

I have only read this one once, so far, and I just finished it in January. I will reread it at some point as with the rest of the series. I think this one really hits hard on the facts that kids today are bullied relentlessly and that there are people out there that can and will help.

Review Rewind (#3) Keys to Love (Conquest#3) by S.J Frost

Review Rewind (#3):
I love S.J Frost's work which is why I am featuring her in my first set of Review Rewind posts. This entire series so far has been heart-stopping, laugh inducing and tear jerking!

Goodreads Summary:
For two years, Julian Forrester's been playing keyboards and piano for Conquest. Having left behind a classical career, he's reached a level of fame like he's never dreamed. But fame and fortune can't bring him the one thing he wants most; love.

Morgan Chandler spent years teaching students to love music until budget cuts forced him out of a job. With family debts rising, Morgan accepts a job as a roadie for Conquest. He thinks he'll hate it with one exception -- he'll be close to Julian.

Can the two find the right music together that will lead them to the Keys to Love?

My thoughts:
This is book 3 in the Conquest series by S.J Frost and I love, love, loved it! It is a M/M romance and is just amazing! I was so excited to read Julian's book & Morgan was the perfect man for him. I couldn't stop reading this, as with the others in this series I just had to finish it! S.J Frost certainly has a way with words, and is a master storyteller! I can not wait to read the next book.

I read this one in January of this year and haven't had the chance to read it again yet, but I am sure that I will. Right now (among other reads) I am working on finishing up the remaining books in the series. Once again if you haven't read this series please move it up on your list. You will NOT be disappointed!

Review Rewind (#2) No Fear (Conquest #2) by S.J Frost

Review Rewind (#2):
Today's review rewind is on the second book of the Conquest series by S.J Frost. It is an amazing love story and you just have to read it!

Goodreads Summary:
After touring for more than a year with his band, Conquest, singer Jesse Alexander is ready to head home for a long rest with his partner, superstar vocalist, Evan Arden. When it’s time to hit the studio again, there’s competition from two new bands and tensions reach a breaking point that threaten not only Conquest’s future, but Jesse’s relationship with Evan. As he faces challenges unlike any he’s ever known, Jesse must somehow keep it together to duplicate Conquest’s success and reach his ultimate goal: showing NO FEAR and announcing his love of Evan publicly.

My Thoughts:
This is book 2 of the Conquest series and is the continuation ofEvan and Jesses story. I loved this book just as much as the first one. Ev and Jess have an amazing relationship. Dispite being rock icons and constantly in the public eye they make it work. I would definitely recommend this title. If you have never read a m/m romance this series is the perfect place to start.
Again, I read this one back in September and I have since then read it again. I still love both the characters and the story as much as I did the very first time I read it. Jesse and Evan are the perfect couple add to it seeing Jesse's brother Brandon finally find his happiness and *sigh* its a book that can take your breath away.

Review Rewind (#1) Conquest (Conquest #1) by S.J Frost

Review Rewind (#1):

Hi everybody! I have decided to do a series of posts involving reviews of some of my favorite books, that I read before starting this blog. I am going to start out with the Conquest series by S.J Frost because it popped my M/M cherry and because I absolutely love the stories!  I am about half-way through the series now and want you to be caught up before I post reviews for the later books in the series.

Goodreads Summary:

Vocally gifted singer, Jesse Alexander, has dreams of taking his band, Conquest, to the top. Evan Arden was thought of as a musical genius when at the height of his career he vanished from the spotlight. Together, their relationship is just as intense as their music careers. With success pushing down on them, Jesse must decide between his life of music, or his life with Evan.

My Thoughts:

Let me start by saying that this is the first m/m romance I have ever read but I was completely blown away. Jesse and Evan have such an instant connection and passionate romance that I was hooked right away. There were a few times I laughed and quite a few times I cried. Conquest is such a touching story I just can't even do it justice. Please have an open mind and read this book. You will not regret it! I would highly recommend it. I am looking forward to starting book 2 "No Fear" right away.

Since I wrote this review in September of last year I have read Conquest three more times and I love the story, (as well as Jesse and Evan) more and more each time. It is such a fantastic Romance that I think even people that are not fans of the M/M genre will enjoy it. For those of you that have never tried a M/M romance this is a perfect book for first timers.

*Thanks again JoJo for the initial loan and recommendation!*
