Review: Power Play: Resistance by Rachel Haimowitz and Cat Grant

Blurb:

Give me six months, and I'll give you the world.

Brandon McKinney has scraped and sacrificed for what little in life he's ever had. Though it's been fifteen years since he escaped his father's abuse, the damage remains. Trust seems as far out of reach as his dream of becoming an architect, and though he's come to accept being gay, he can't deny the shame and confusion he feels at other urges--the deeply repressed desire to submit.

Jonathan Watkins is a self-made Silicon Valley billionaire whose ex-wife took half his money and even more of his faith. Comfortable as a Dominant but wary of being hurt again, he resorts to anonymous pickups and occasional six-month contracts with subs seeking only a master, not a lover.

When a sizzling back-alley encounter cues Jonathan in to Brandon's deep-seated submissive side, he makes the man an offer: Give me six months of your life, and I'll open your eyes to a whole new world. Brandon doesn't care about that; all he wants is the three million dollars Jonathan's offering so he can buy the construction company he works for. But he soon learns that six months on his knees is no easy feat, and shame and pride may keep him from all he ever wanted-and all he never dreamed he had any right to have.

Reader discretion advised. This title contains heavy kink. While consent is clearly established and frequently reaffirmed, some moments in Power Play push hard against the outer edges of consent.

My Thoughts:

Truthfully I have absolutely no idea where to begin so forgive me if I ramble a bit.
I am not a stranger to BDSM books, not in the least and for the most part I really enjoy them. This book left me gasping and wondering what the hell just happened?

Brandon and Jonathan meet in a bar and have a sexual encounter in the back alley that leaves Brandon with cum soaked pants wondering how the hell he just got off from that. Later Brandon and Jonathan meet and Jonathan proposes that Brandon be his submissive for a term of 6 months, at the end of which he will be paid the sum of 3 Million dollars. The money is Brandon's main drive and after exhausting all his other options he reluctantly agrees.  So this far I am thinking okay, this I can handle, it's not so bad. Boy was I wrong! Jonathan admits that he is a sadist. He gets off on inflicting pain and it is a must for him. He needs it, not necessarily every time but that is what drives him.
Both Brandon and Jonathan have issues. Brandon has a history of abuse and working/struggling just to make ends meet. He had a troubled childhood and it just sets this contract up as a recipe for disaster with Jonathan being a sadist, and Brandon coming from abuse. Jonathan also worked for everything he has and was very successful at it.  He grew up in a commune surrounded by hippies and learned very early on that he liked inflicting pain. I believe that has a lot to do with the man he became.
Brandon is a smart ass and very prideful. He is not someone that I would peg as submissive at all. He is outspoken and just not what I would think any submissive would be like. Jonathan on the other had is Dominant all the way and it definitely shows.
One of the good things about this story is that it is told from both perspectives. We get to read from Jonathans Pov and we see the internal war that Brandon is constantly having. This was almost a must given being that part of the contract was that Brandon not speak unless first, asking permission or being asked a direct question.

While this is classified as heavy BDSM it also borders on torture & abuse. This may just be my opinion, but let me tell you this pushed hard on ALL my limits as a reader. Most of the toys I could deal with... Most. When the black fist came out along with the stun gun I was ready to toss my kindle down and go pick up something safe like a friendly Nursery Rhyme book or Dr. Seuss! Yes I was only reading, it was not happening to me, but I was able to feel Brandon's terror. I was afraid and I had to stop and cuddle with my hunny for a little while. At least until I caught my breath and was able to be sucked back into the story once again. I have never read a M/M book before that had "fisting" in it. Yes I have read a M/F/F and I hated it. Given I was not previously reading about anal fisting but instead vaginal fisting I can not imagine what Brandon was going through. I cringed, I cried, I was shaking, I wanted so badly for it not to be true, but I continued on watching Brandon break. Despite everything that I have said these two did have a connection, and I believe it is one that runs very deep. While we do not get to see it in it's full glory, we get subtle hints of it and it is definitely there in the end. I am hoping that it will show more in the next book.
I wanted so bad for these guys to find love within the pages of this book but that would have made this book more like 3 times longer than what it was. I know that this is only beginning for these guys and I am anxious to read Power Play: Awakening I just need a little more time to processes before doing so.

If you are still with me after reading all of that, I am at the point where the entire thing becomes a contradiction. Not the book, just my feelings on it. I couldn't walk away from it for very long just long enough to be able to breathe again yet I was dreading each new scene because I just knew it would be worse than the last. While I did not like, or agree, or condone most of what happened within these pages, it was so well written that it made me feel. I mentioned earlier that I cried, but it was not simply tears it was an ugly cry but I smiled and shook with terror too. Not many books can pull that kind of emotion out of me. I think that if you can handle your BDSM on the heavier side then this is definitely a book that needs to be given a chance.

Review: Master Prince (Masters of Tabu #2) by Gray Dixon

Blurb:

The Masters of Tabu center around the journey of college friends from Dallas, Texas, seeking redemption, healing and love when they least expect it. Hot days and sizzling nights await—Marcus Knight, Mitchell Prince, Jared King, Shane Marshal, Brock Dragon and Jagger Squire with Simon Tempest, a friend of Marcus Knight rounding out the co-owners of Club Tabu, a BDSM private club. Dallas will never be the same.

Mitchell Prince, is a Dom with an attitude. He’s the Chief Counsel of Knight Enterprises and has a private practice in Dallas, Texas, which keeps him busy. He’s also a co-owner in Club Tabu and tends to watch and monitor more than have a sub of his own. He has yet to find the right partner to fulfill his darkest desires to control and challenge him physically and mentally.

Guilianna Hathaway, nicknamed Anna by her closest friends, is no princess but can play with the Big Boys in the courtroom. She’s a hard-edged attorney representing women and children. Her latest client files a civil suit against Club Tabu and the owners for negligence due to an alleged rape and assault of her client by another patron of the BDSM club. She’s curious about the goings on in an establishment catering to the abuse of women, or what she assumes happens there and returns to the “crime scene” for research and is stunned and shocked by what she finds. Once she meets with Mitchell Prince at Club Tabu, not only is she attracted to the tall, dark and handsome attorney representing the club, she’s also drawn into the BDSM world. Discovering she has a submissive nature is a revelation she’s willing to explore. With the right Dom, that is.

Will Mitch and Anna plead the fifth and follow the laws of nature rather than the laws they uphold in court?

My Thoughts:

I loved how fiesty Anna was. She was definitely a match for Mitch. I was intrigued when she bumped heads with him in the very beginning and threw him off balance every chance she got. Seeing these two get together was a ride worth taking.
I love the BDSM aspect of this story and I can't wait to read more about Club Tabu and the other owners!
I would definitely recommend this book and book 1!

*I recieved this book for review but that has in no way effected my opinion.*

Review: Hold my Hand by Paloma Beck

Goodreads Summary:

A book about Aubrey and William. They are navigating through a relationship that may have too many hurdles... or perhaps not, as long as she can hold his hand.

Aubrey has been hurt in the past, discouraged and degraded. Still, William sees something in her that won't allow him to walk away. Instantly drawn to her but intuitive enough to take it slowly, he courts her. Then he bargains, persuades and seduces until Aubrey becomes ensnared by his commanding nature. Despite the fight she puts up in accepting William's lifestyle, the bonds he places on Aubrey give her a freedom she desperately needs. And together, they heal old wounds and find their perfect love.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book. It pulled me in from the beginning and kept my attention. I really liked William but had a little trouble connecting to Aubrey. That is just me though, she is struggling with the "relationship" and doesn't know how to feel. This is primarily because of her religion and the way she was raised. I just wanted her to sieze the day and embrace the new world that William was opening up to her. It took her till the end but she finally opened her eyes. Normally I do not enjoy religion in my fiction however in this case it worked. It helped explain where Aubrey was coming from and why she reacts the way she does to certain things.

Paloma Beck does not disappoint her readers. She has truely become a favorite author of mine and I can not wait to read more of her work.

I very highly recommend Paloma's work to any reader that loves their books spicy!

Review: Master Knight (Masters of Tabu #1) by Gray Dixon

Synopsis:

Marcus Knight, entrepreneur and CEO of Knight Enterprises, is a Dom with a darker side. After a nasty divorce, he’s sworn off any emotional involvement with any woman. By accident he meets a woman at a party when he travels to New York City for business. She’s too young and inexperienced with his lifestyle. Or so he thinks.

Khari Bradford is small town girl in search of fame and fortune on the Broadway stage. On a chance meeting, she meets an older man who captivates her. Within a short time, she becomes his newest submissive, but wonders how she ended up with him instead of on Broadway.

Will her new aspiration have her lose both dreams, Broadway and her Knight after discovering he has no intentions of staying in New York or with her? Will Marcus return to Dallas and give Khari her dream, but lose the woman who makes his heart sing?

My Thoughts:

I was immediately pulled into this story and couldnt put it down. I loved it! I thought the way Marcus and Khari met was nothing short of destiny. I was so glad that Khari woke up and realized she was wrong before it was too late.

If this book is the foundation for whats to come from the series then I am sold. I can not wait for more! I would very highly recommend this title to any fans of BDSM books.

Review: Burning For Him by Michelle Fox

Goodreads Summary:
Three nights to ravish her body, one curse to shatter her heart...
A magic locket brings the demon Khan into Selena Connor’s life--and bed--just in the nick of time. Her fiancĂ©’s stolen her life savings, she faces crushing debts, and her boss is trying to harass her into his bed. When Khan appears, his dark magic unlocks the deepest secrets of her body and heart. His touch ignites a burning desire that bends Selena to his will and erases all her cares.
But Khan's curse binds him to the locket's owner for only three nights of soul-searing pleasure, and just as Selena realizes she can’t live without him, Khan vanishes. Reality comes crashing in: Selena's boss has framed her to take the fall for his crimes. If she refuses his advances now, it's jail. She may as well be cursed herself.
With nothing left to lose,Selena takes a leap of faith. Only one man--Khan--will ever truly possess her. And maybe she's the one woman who can free him.
An erotic novella (code for longer than a short story but not as long as a full novel) of approximately 20,000 words; expect steamy sex with BDSM elements.

My Thoughts:
This is the second book I have read by Michelle Fox and she has just made my "auto-buy" list!
These characters (Selena & Khan) quickly pulled me into their story and didn't let me go until the last page was read.
It is a novella so it would be a perfect bedtime read. The story is well written and very captivating, not to mention super steamy! I highly recommend reading this story.
